For this tutorial you will need:

  • a blank canvas
  • paint
  • mate-medium
  • stickers (mhm, you heard me, stickers!)
  • brushes
  • your favorite music

Let’s be painters for a day! I was super inspired to fill a blank wall I had in my foyer with some type of art, like a painting for example. I was looking for something unique and personal so I decided to create my own painting! This was not the first time I painted. I’ve made a set of paintings before to put in my bedroom, which I am planning to share the tutorial with you as well.

Before I get into the tutorial, I must say, painting was so relaxing and fun! It came out better than I expected, I didn’t constrained myself with any painting techniques or rules, I just did it.

So please, don’t limit yourself to the materials I use or suggestions I make. Have fun, find your own inspiration and let’s get stated!

I started painting from top to bottom.

I worked with a smooth and settle transaction between tints and shades, but I was a bit more aggressive in the transaction between colors. The tints and shades started to show as I added -literally- drops of black and white paint to the colors as I moved down the painting.

When I got in the middle of the painting, I started adding red into blue, then added some more red a couple of time and then I went back to black and white paint.

I let it dry for a few minutes and then I applied the stickers. Once satisfied with the pattern I’ve created with the flowers, I applied two layers of mate medium on top of the stickers and through out the painting to make it look uniform.

It took a little while for the mate medium to dry and the white marks disappear.

What do you think?
I am thinking about painting another canvas and use the same background concept but with different colors. Maybe yellow and white? Gray and purple/blue? Black and blue/orange?
Which colors would you pick and why?
